‘It’s a blessing’: Affordable housing to replace nuisance motel in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (The Philadelphia Tribune) — A former nuisance motel in North Philadelphia is being transformed into affordable housing as part of North10, Philadelphia’s effort to create safer and more vibrant communities.

The Be A Gem Crossing development replaced the former Liberty Motel, a property that had been a long-standing concern for neighbors due to crime and safety issues. The new four-story building includes 41 affordable apartments, primarily for families, along with space for a future community health clinic and other neighborhood services.

“This is a blessing,” residents shared as the project brought a positive change to a location that had impacted the surrounding community for years. Through Be A Gem Crossing, North10, Philadelphia is helping address the need for affordable housing while supporting broader neighborhood revitalization efforts in North Philadelphia.
