City, U.S. Senator Bob Casey, and North10 Launch $25 Million North Philadelphia School Zones Traffic Project

PHILADELPHIA (City of Philadelphia) — The City of Philadelphia, U.S. Senator Bob Casey, and North10, Philadelphia announced a $25 million investment to improve traffic safety around six North Philadelphia schools and create safer routes for students, families, and school staff.

The funding, provided through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s RAISE Grant program, will support the development of school slow zones with improvements such as raised crosswalks, redesigned signage, curb extensions, ADA ramps, upgraded traffic signals, and pedestrian safety enhancements. The project will focus on six schools: Julia de Burgos Elementary School, Kenderton Elementary School, KIPP Philadelphia Elementary Academy, Mary McLeod Bethune School, Pan-American Academy Charter School, and Potter-Thomas School.

“Every student, their families, and school staff deserve safer ways to get to school,” city officials shared as the project aims to reduce traffic speeds and improve neighborhood safety for people walking, biking, and using public transportation.

Through this partnership, North10, Philadelphia and city leaders are working to create safer school environments while supporting healthier and more connected North Philadelphia communities.
